ACE Campervans was originally set up back in 1986, and it has remained in family hands ever since. Owner Cliff has been working in the business for 20 years and this ‘time on the job’ has allowed him to build up an unrivalled level of campervan expertise. And with this knowledge and experience, you can be sure you’re renting a vehicle that will take you where you want to go.

Is there a minimum age for hiring a motorhome?

Yes, it’s 25 years. Our insurance covers 25 years and older.

Do I need a special licence to drive a motorhome?

No. Only a full car drivers license is required to drive our campervans.

Does the time of day I pick up or drop off affect the price?

The day the motorhome is returned is counted as a full day regardless of return time. If your intended travel dates cross two different rate periods, your rental will be based on the number of days of hire in each period.

What does the daily hire rate include?

Basic insurance but with a $3,000.00 excess. Everything inside the camper including linen, crockery, cutlery etc. This also includes unlimited mileage, and all on road costs.

Do we have to pay extra for additional drivers?

No. Extra driver fees are included in our daily hire rate. Anyone who drives the camper needs to be recorded on the rental agreement in order to be covered by our insurance policy, and a copy of their drivers licence held at Ace Caravans.

What happens if I need to cancel my hire?

In the event that the Customer cancels this contract, the Customer must provide Ace with written notice at least thirty (30) days prior to the commencement of the hire period. Any cancellation with notice less than the aforementioned shall deem the Customer liable to pay to Ace a cancellation fee (calculated as follows):

Notice of between twenty-nine (29) and ten (10) days: the deposit shall be forfeit, and a subsequent amount which would equate the cancellation fee to fifty percent (50%) of the Price; or
Notice of less than ten (10) days, or no notice at all: the deposit shall be forfeit, and a subsequent amount which would equate the cancellation fee to full Price.

When do I need to pay for my motorhome holiday?

A deposit of the price of the bond you choose is required to secure your booking. The remaining balance must be presented on or before the day of the commencement of the hire.

What do I do if something happens to the campervan or motorhome?

In the unlikely event that you will experience a mechanical or operational problem with your vehicle, assistance is right at hand with AA Roadside assist. This is a 24-hour roadside assistance service and you can contact them by calling freephone 0800 500 222 or *222 from your mobile phone. In the event of an accident you must notify Ace as soon as possible.

I would like to make a ferry crossing reservation. Do I need to know the length of the vehicle before making my reservation?

Yes, you need to tell the ferry company the size and how many passengers.

Can I freedom camp when hiring a motor home from Ace Campervans?

Yes, as long as you are hiring a self contained campervan or motorhome. Please visit www.camping.org.nz to find out more about free camping in New Zealand. All toilet and grey waste must be emptied at a designated dump station.

What is the minimum rental duration?

Minimum rental period is three (4) days between February and November. Outside of these dates we have a minimum rental of 2 weeks, due to high demand. Charges are per calendar day.  The day of pick-up is the first day of the rental. The day of return is the final day of the rental.

What do you mean by calendar days when we book?

The day of collection is classed as your first day, and the day of return is classed as your final day.

How can I pay?

Deposits and remaining balances can be made by credit card (Visa & Mastercard), New Zealand Dollar cash or bank deposit.  The bond must be paid by direct credit or credit  card (Visa or Mastercard) upon booking.

What insurance do I need?

Insurance is included in the basic price, but it comes with a $3,000.00 excess per claim. For no stress option (no excess) it is $25.00 per day on top of daily rental. NOTE: Awnings, solar panels and satellite domes and all personal items are excluded on our insurance.

What will it cost me if I have an accident or damage the motorhome?

If you take our no stress insurance @ $25.00 per day, you will not be liable for any insurance excess in the event of a claim. If you opt for the basic insurance, you are liable for the first $3,000 for each claim, or $4,000 if you are a left hand driver.

What happens if I have an accident and it’s not my fault, say a third party caused it?

In the event that something happens to the motorhome and you are not at fault (either a vehicle accident where someone strikes the vehicle or damage occurs while the vehicle is parked), if you are unable to supply Ace Campervans with details that enable recovery of the costs, then unfortunately you will be liable. A break in reported to the Police with a copy of the incident report from the police is not charged for.

Can I get a refund for early return?

No.  If you choose to terminate your hire early no refunds will apply.

Can I extend my hire?

Yes, but only by arrangement and depending on availability.

Do I have to pay for road tax?

No, Ace Campers pays for the Road User Charges. (RUC)

Where can I empty the toilet and grey water?

Dump stations are located in campgrounds and various tourist sites around New Zealand. We provide a list of where these are in our vehicle handbook.

What is included in the motorhome?

Bedding – Duvet, Sheet, Pillow, Pillowcase, Pillow Protector, Blanket (in winter), Mattress Protector
Towels – Bath towel, bath mat, tea towels
Cutlery – Forks, knives, spoons, teaspoons
Crockery – Dinner plates, plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, children’s plastic glasses, serving bowl
Cooking Utensils –vegetable peeler, knives, fish slice, whisk, scissors, can opener, serving spoons, tongs, can opener, corkscrew, potato masher
Kitchen – Matches, Electric Jug & Toaster, Kettle, chopping board, fry pan, saucepan, pot, grater, storage containers, mixing bowl, colander, dish brush, scouring pad, dish cloth, cleaning fluids
General – Pegs, clothesline, clothes hangers, bucket, dust pan & brush, hose, step stool, outdoor table & chairs, toilet chemical, disposable gloves, fire extinguisher, torch, maps & information, vehicle handbook, soap, tissues, toilet paper, rubbish bag, grey water hose, electric fan heater
First Aid Kit, a sealed kit is supplied, but should you need to open it, a $20 charge is made and you become the owner of the kit.

Can I flatten the battery and be stranded?

The vehicle (starter) battery is not connected to the appliances so cannot be flattened by using lights or the fridge etc.
